The information below is taken from the back of the "Uprising" lp on Intermedia records from 1983. It's a collection of their early pre-Motown recordings and includes "Rise Up" and bangin' versions of "Sing A Simple Song" and "Who's Making Love".

This i believe to be there first release on Atlantic in 1968, the Commodores formerly known as
the jays were discovered playing at smalls paradise in New York by singer , producer,
singer, song writer jerry williams jnr A.K.A swamp dog, who then recorded them on a four
track studio session. Unfortunately williiams could not persuade top record execs that
the commodores had a commercial future and moved on to other things. In 1971
the commodores landed a deal with motown records.
