Avalon, Tony & The Belairs - Sexy Coffee Pot

Label: Atlantic

Rating: 7.28
Votes: 29
May 31 2007 9:43PM by Ericka Schiche
Tony Alvon and the Belairs, a Philadelphia funk group, have three records, the rarest of which is "Sexy Coffee Pot." Other records on Atlantic include "Philly Horse" (with "Don't Be a Drag (Giddy Up)" on the flip side) and "Stone Soul Candidate" with "Catch a Fox" on the B side. The late producer Paul C McKasty sampled the drum break to construct the music for Eric B and Rakim's "Run for Cover". There is also an interesting anecdote from Pete Rock about his experience in digging for this record. The record was also sampled by Cypress Hill, Scarface and DJ Shadow, among others. "Sexy Coffee Pot" was written by J.C. Hill and J. Stiles, is a Virtue-Stiles production, and was recorded at Virtue Studios in Pennsylvania.

It actually says: Tony Alvon and not Tony Avalon, on the label

The flip side is entitled "Boom-Boom-Boom" and it's basically "Sexy Coffee Pot" with vocals! Still Super Funky!

The label is Toxsan (106), and the b-side on this one is the Carol King track
"Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow". Was recently reissued as a 45 w/ original label art, but distinct for the "Soul Fire Dist." engraved on the vinyl.

This was first pressed up on a virtua plate before release on toxan(not toxam).

Writing is credited to G.A.R. and the record length is 2:23. The Latin Breed were probably the third most popular group from San Antonio behind Mickey and the Soul Generation and Sunny and the Sunliners. This is also perhaps the rarest Latin Breed record.
